Schedule of classes for Semester A2: March 2024-September 2024

Ballet Folklorico

Folklorico 1 – Class consists of rhythmic movement and choreographed sequences taught in a beginner level to music from Mexican folklore (bailes tradicionales). Completed dance choreographed piece will be taught.
Ages 3-5 year olds. Three-year-olds may register for this class. Recommendation is that 3-year-olds complete Creative Movement first or participate in one-on-on classes for assessment.

Folklorico 2– This class consists of movement and choreographed sequences taught to beginning students from Mexican folklore (bailes tradicionales). Completed dance choreographed piece will be taught. Ages 6-9-year-olds.

Folklorico 3 – Class consists of rhythmic movement and choreographed sequences taught in a beginner 1 & 2 level to music from Mexican folklore (bailes tradicionales). Footwork, skirt movement, rhythmic sequences, taught within class. Completed dance choreography to a specific region/state will be taught.
Ages 10-16 year-olds.

Folklorico 4- Class consists of intermediate-advanced skills in ballet folklorico steps and techniques. Choreographed sequences consist of techniques in footwork and skirt-work taught in an intermediate to advanced level to music from Mexican folklore (bailes tradicionales). Completed dance piece will be taught for semester.
Ages 12-17. Placement for students who have completed courses in Folklorico 3 and director/instructor recommendation required.

Adult Folklorico – Folklorico dance from states, regions and eras of Mexico dance.
Taught at Intermediate-advanced levels with skills progressing of enrolled students. Learn footwork, arm movements applicable to region and dance style, skirt work and a variety of rhythms and styles. The semester will end with completed dance choreography.
Ages 18+

Spanish Dance & Flamenco

Spanish I – Beginning level of classical and regional dance taught to music from Spain and classical music.
Footwork (taconeo) and armwork (braceos) are basic fundamentals taught within the class. Dances may also be taught for soft shoe (zapatillas) classical dance.
Beginning flamenco rhythms and techniques taught.
Ages 6-10

Spanish II – Beginner-Intermediate level of classical and regional dance taught to music from Spain and classical music.
Footwork (taconeo) and armwork (braceos) are basic fundamentals taught within the class at an advancing and challenging level. Dances may also be taught for soft shoe (zapatillas) classical dance.
Beginning flamenco rhythms and techniques taught.
Instructor recommendation required.
Ages 11-17

Spanish III – Intermediate level of classical and regional dance taught to music from Spain and classical music.
Footwork (taconeo) and armwork (braceos) are basic fundamentals taught within the class. Dances may also be taught for soft shoe (zapatillas) classical dance.
Beginning flamenco rhythms and techniques taught.
Instructor recommendation required.
Ages 12-18

Flamenco – Learn the fundamentals of this expressive Spanish art form. The class focuses on exercises for footwork (taconeo), arm movement (braceos), flamenco turns, body posture, movement and coordination. A variety of flamenco rhythms is introduced and semester will be completed with a choreographed piece, taking the student beyond the steps to incorporate style and expression.

Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical & Modern

Jazz 1 – The student will be introduced to the fundamentals of basic jazz dance: including turns, steps and basic kicks. Initial emphasis is on posture and coordination as well as dance positions. Focus will be on balance and flexibility. The student will be introduced to a variety of music and dance styles, basic footwork and dance sequences. A completed dance in a chosen style will be taught and presented for end of the semester.
Age 4-6 (ages 3 accepted with permission of instructor and director and completion of Creative Movement course)

Jazz 2– The student will understand the fundamentals of basic jazz dance: including turns, steps, leaps and basic kicks taught at Levels 1 & 2. We emphasize posture and coordination as well as dance positions. Students will gain confidence while developing greater balance, flexibility and strength. The student will experience various dance styles, basic footwork and co-ordination. Students will learn corner-to-corner/across-the-floor exercises. Class consists of stretching, flexibility and conditioning techniques. Ages 6-11 (age 6 accepted with permission of instruction & director)

CLM – Contemporary, Lyrical & Modern
Class consists of stretching, flexibility and conditioning techniques. Balance, turns, kicks and leaps are taught at Levels 2, 3 & potential for advanced. Lifts and partnering taught on occasion.
Jazz Choreography pieces taught to trendy dance music consisting of styles and themes pleasant and, many times upbeat but always fun and a variety.
Contemporary taught as style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Younger students may be placed as they have completed Jazz 1 and placement by director &/or instructor.
Age 11-17

CLM 2 – Adults – Contemporary, Lyrical and Modern
Class consists of stretching, flexibility and conditioning techniques. Balance, turns, kicks and leaps are taught at Levels 2, 3 & potential for advanced. Lifts and partnering taught on occasion.

Hip-Hop

Kid Funk – Freestyle and expressive dance movements choreographed to popular hip-hop music. Will have a full choreography piece for end of semester. Age appropriate music.
Ages 4-7

Hip-Hop I – Freestyle and expressive dance movements choreographed to popular hip-hop music. Will have a full choreography piece for end of semester. Age-appropriate music.
Ages 8-13

Youth Ballroom

Experience the basics and fundamentals of dances like Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Swing, Rumba, Cha Cha and more. Social dance of salsa, merengue and bachata may also be introduced. Students will be introduced to the different rhythms of ballroom dance. Beginning techniques for 2-3 different styles will be taught each semester but focus will remain on one style for purpose of a completed presentation for the semester. Partnering will be required for this dance course.

Choreographed dance piece will be taught for end of semester.

Class open to boys & girls ages 9+
(Scholarships and special rates available for boys- inquire with office for requirements, no permanent partnering)

Tiny Tot & Mommy & Me

Creative Movement – Creative Movement introduces fun movement in pre-school music and dance with a cultural music in mind as well. Children will explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy & create with instructor guidance & Mommy help! Goals include the eventual independence of the young dancer

**Intro courses are 35 minutes in length. Once the students complete and show progress of this introductory course, a course of 45 minutes will develop.

Musical Theater

Musical Theater dance is a theatrical dance style that includes dancing, singing and acting to songs from popular Broadway musicals. Students will learn basics of acting, character development while dancing, and using movement to tell a story. Students will also receive lessons in song, voice and stage vocal projection.
Ages 8-15. No prior experience is necessary but recommended. Adding additional classes of jazz, hip-hop or contemporary maybe suggested.

Ballet

Pre-Ballet – This class introduces ballet terminology and follows a traditional ballet format. Barre introduced to students but limited. It includes a warm-up, basic ballet steps & terms, center movement and free dance expression. Choreography piece taught for end of semester time. Age 4-7 Creative Movement class recommended for 4-year-old students to complete. 5-7-year-old students may enroll without instructor approval.

Ballet 1 – Choreography piece taught at level appropriate for Ballet 1. This class introduced your dancer to the beautiful art of ballet! This class will enhance your child’s coordination, balance and flexibility with the teaching of basic ballet steps, positions and be introduced to terminology through standing barre work and simple center floor exercises. The young dancer will also enjoy rhythmic work with music exploration.
